A lot of folks ask me how I sketch stuff, whether I start with lines, or how I figure out details. Well here ya go!

Generally i make some shapes that look like (insert final character). I sketch some crap on top, and do a tighter more "finished" sketch on top, just using black and white. It kind of winds up looking like the love child of Tron and a a block print.

I try not to spend more then 20 minutes on any part, i figure if you work something too much... you worked it too much (and people can tell, it tends to get pretty muddeled).

Anywho, its not how to get to a finished piece, the anatomy and positions is mucky and.. uh.. straight lines? what are those?!?! But its a great way to start :D

Model: Tobias (who lives on moon guard!) - cause hes awesome at standing still to get painted <3 I imagine hes about to walk into a cave in northrend and never come out quite the same....

I adore your method, it results in the most unique and textural pieces with such intense movement of shadow. You're wonderful.

This is like Kliban's how to draw a qat. [link]

Genius, but cruel to those of us at a different evolutionary stage of art.

OMG that tutorial is pretty much... wow. Its really helpful and accurate and very true to life. My cats at home are like that (is that a pillow? no.. its a ninja cat that just turned around and wants food...)

I'll give this sketch method a try.

I do tend to over work my sketches, which is a bad habit of mine.

In otherwords, I like this. Favorited, for refrence.

Its an old approach, but one that does't get used int he graphic arts a lot, mostly in animation, but it does really help place things.
